Face Check by Selfie in an AI Sex Chat: Why It Exists and How It Works

1Why check the face

The check has three goals:

Without it anyone could upload a photo of an acquaintance or a celebrity and get an explicit clip with them. That is unacceptable and hurts people. Our check closes this door: you can only pass it with your own face.

• make sure the clip features you and not someone else;
• make sure you are 21 or older;
• make sure there is one person in the picture, not several.

2How the check goes

The whole procedure takes 5 to 10 seconds and is automatic.

• You upload a photo. The software finds the face, estimates age and size.
• You take a live selfie with the camera. A ready-made file cannot replace it: the shot must be taken now.
• The software compares the two faces and computes how similar they are.
• If all is well, the clip is made. If not, you see a clear message and your GEM are returned.

3Why a live selfie

A camera selfie shows that the person is at the screen now. It is taken right in the browser: you cannot upload a prepared file instead. This confirms the shot is yours and was not found on the internet.

4Age 21 and over

Age estimated from a face is approximate, with an error of several years. That is why the threshold is 21, set with a margin. If you are over 21 but were refused, retake the selfie in daylight or choose a sharper photo. The age estimate is not stored and does not go to your profile.

5How the software compares faces, without math

Imagine describing a face with measurements: distance between eyes, nose shape, jaw line, brow position and hundreds of fine details. The software does the same and gets a numeric template. It compares the template from the photo with the one from the selfie: the more matches, the higher the similarity. The technology does not search for you among millions and does not look for your face on the internet. It answers one narrow question: are these two faces the same?

6False refusals: why they happen

If you were refused, press "Retake" and take the selfie closer in style to the photo: same angle, similar light. Usually one more attempt is enough.

• different lighting on the photo and the selfie;
• different angles, a straight photo and a turned selfie;
• different styling: makeup, beard, glasses, haircut;
• retouching on the photo that the camera does not have;
• a long gap between the pictures;
• a poor camera or a dirty lens.

7Why it cannot be bypassed

Without the check the feature would become a tool for explicit clips with other people's faces: acquaintances, exes, celebrities. Such clips ruin lives. So the check is mandatory and there is no workaround. Whoever wants to appear in a clip themselves passes it in seconds.

8How to take a good selfie: seven steps

• Face a window or lamp, light should fall on your face.
• Take off glasses and hat if you are without them on the photo.
• Hold the camera at eye level.
• Look straight into the lens.
• Neutral expression or a light smile.
• Do not tilt your head far to the side.
• Do not move while shooting.

9Special cases

You have changed a lot:

If you are much younger on the photo, or with a different haircut or weight, the check may fail. Update the main photo.

You wear glasses all the time:

Upload a photo with glasses and take the selfie with glasses too, if they do not glare. Turn your head slightly to avoid reflections.

You have a beard:

Fine, as long as its length and shape are similar on photo and selfie.

You shoot in a dark room:

Switch on bright light: a phone screen is too weak.
